About Karen Hill Martinez,
RYT 200
Yoga literally saved my life, both mentally and physically.
Six years ago, I became very ill with extreme fatigue, pneumonia and several undiagnosed symptoms that kept me bed-ridden for months. Doctors tried to help yet nothing was conclusive and I became more anxious not having a diagnosis. Without a diagnosis, no medicines, procedures can be given. I had a strong yoga practice for three years prior and considered trying again though in a very weakened state. I rolled out of bed to the floor and began to do "easy" yoga poses that left me breathless and in tears. I promised myself to do 5-10 minutes of yoga each day. After a week, I could feel the difference in my body, my strength and my mood. By week four of my home practice, I was out of bed entirely and going back to work part-time. I am absolutely certain that yoga saved me.
After much soul searching since that time, I know that my physical and mental decline was, in part, based on years of avoiding emotional pain through unproductive, destructive paths (you name it, I did it). The last straw of the proverbial camel's back were my parents' deaths, children headed to college and my husband launching a new career in another state and quickly became a long-distance partner. My years of planning birthday parties, being "room mother," cooking, cleaning, being a supportive wife, mother, child, full time employee and being the heart, eyes and ears of my family abruptly came to an end as everyone "left" me.
My daily yoga practice forced me to think about me and to move and breathe just for me. I want to share with you how to be grateful for who you are and how to create an abundance of positivity through yoga. Yoga is for every body no matter the age or flexibility. I would like to help you rediscover strength inside and outside, breath by breath.
I can’t wait to share my space with you and welcome you to Garden Path Yoga Triad!
